Nature thrives in the great outdoors of Southeastern Illinois. Deer abound. Wild turkeys are plentiful. Bald eagles and bobcats have returned to the region. There are occasional reports of cougar sightings. And, many species of sport fish are found in the waters of the great Ohio River, its tributaries, and the many lakes of Southeastern Illinois.

All of this abides within the sculptured, wooded hills of the Shawnee National Forest.
